Shirewood is a small wood sculpting studio situated in the heart of England, making commissions and art pieces.

I would love to talk to you about your project. Please contact me – the more unusual the better. Here are some of my more recent projects:

“Gwent” board from the award winning “Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt” game”

Replicating the computer game in real life, this board is one of a pair, and made to fit the ready printed cards available online.

It features card grooves, so that the game can be played outdoors in settings such as found in the computer game, without the wind blowing the cards out of their playing spots.

Featuring an oak and sapele veneer, this design is completely unique as it has been developed for use within the LARP Witcher community in the UK, alongside the commissioning buyer.
“Pallet Coasters”

Made entirely from oak with traditional pallet construction, these coasters are the perfect gift for the man who has everything. Each pair comes in it’s own “Under Construction” hessian bag.
“Athame/Knife Stand Detail”

Another shot of the custom-made athame/knife stand featuring the handcarved celtric triskele design.
“Martian Fighting Machine”

Inspired by Jeff Wayne’s “War of the Worlds”, this version of H G Wells’ Martian Fighting Machine is hand carved out of oak, including all the tiniest details of the heat ray and joint articulation.

This sculpture won the “Pugin Award for Craftsmanship” at the ‘Welcome to the Asylum’ Festival in 2024
“Rosewood Chopping Board”

For when only the best will do for your kitchen. Close-grained and very hard wearing, rosewood is the perfect material for the kitchen, as well as being incredibly beautiful.

This board showcases the beauty of the wood at every turn, whilst clearly not being a factory made item.
“Wooden Medals & Badges”

A pewter plateful of wooden medals and badges designed specifically for my Steampunk customers!
“Fae Sculpture”

Wearing a cap that features the knot in the original wood, this is an art piece for display throughout the year, although the ‘wee willie winkie’ hat he wears makes him especially suitable for Christmas display!
“CherryTable Centre”

This table centre/ display setting features the natural heartwood of the original tree, retaining the bark, and showcasing the naturally-ocurring knot/heartwood curl of the tree, which is often cut out of timber for ease of processing.

The sawdust from the carving has been mixed with epoxy resin to fill the knot-space and create a flat surface. This can be painted gold to mimic the Japanese tradition of ‘Kintsugi’ if desired.
“Pair of Gwent Boards”

Another shot of the paired “Gwent” boards.

“Yew Wand Detail”

Detail from the hand carved yew wand, designed to order with relief carving, a. spiral handle and triple moon detail, as well as following the grain of the rare wood leading to the double tipped design.
“Yew Wand”

Hand carved from 100% English, sustainably grown yew, this wand can incorporate any symbology important to the commissioner.

“Athame/Knife Stand”

Designed specifically for a client using both the triple moon and celtic triskele motifs to reflect their personal beliefs and ethnic heritage.
